Clinical Significance of Coronary Artery Calcification
نویسنده
چکیده
Five hundred forty-four unselected patients were examined by a radiologist as to the presence or absence of coronary artery calcification. The overall prevalence of coronary calcification was 20% and there was a definite increase in the prevalence of the finding with increasing age. A comparison of 94 patients with coronary calcification with a matched control group without calcification indicated that the prevalence of symptomatic ischemic heart disease in the group with calcification was approximately twice that of the control group. The correlation was even more significant when the degree of calcification was moderate or severe. It is concluded that cardiac fluoroscopy with image intensification is a useful supplementary tool in the clinical evaluation of patients suspected of having coronary artery disease. It can be performed easily and imposes no risk to the patient.

Background and purpose: Coronary artery disease is a major cause of mortality, morbidity, and disability in society and patients incur high expenditure on treatment. Pulp stones are ectopic calcifications of the pulp vessel walls, so, they can have similar pathogenesis as those of other organs and coronary atherosclerosis. متن کاملCoronary artery calcium (CAC) score – a prognostic tool in coronary artery disease?
Introduction: The aim of this study was to evaluate the impact of measurement of coronary artery calcification score (CAC) in patients with suspected coronary artery disease (CAD) and a normal myocardial perfusion scan. Methods: In a prospective study we measured the calcium score of 74 patients (29 m, 45 f, mean age 58.7 (m) and 64.4 (f)) with suspicion of CAD and a normal perfusion scan. In ...
متن کاملIncidence and significance of coronary artery calcification.
The incidence of coronary artery calcification was studied in 65 hearts obtained at necropsy. In cases over the age of 40 there was an incidence of coronary calcification of 79 per cent. The incidence increases with age and is slightly more common in men. These lesions occur more commonly in the left coronary circulation than the right. There is a strong association with aortic valve calcificat...

Coronary artery calcification (CAC) was assessed by cinefluoroscopy and its extent was scored (CAC score) in 2,163 consecutive patients undergoing coronary angiography, based on the angiographic and clinical data, the patients were categorized into 8 types of coronary artery disease (CAD). The CAC score was lowest in angiographically normal subjects (0.12+/-0.60) and highest in patients with si...
